BA 5.1 Entwerfen III
The opulent city baths in Steglitz were built at the beginning of the 20th century to accommodate the rapidly expanding district and it‘s lack of apartments with baths or showers. Over the past century, further buildings have been added, embedding the ensemble into the urban grain of Berlin. Municipal and global events have forced a series of closures, reopenings and new uses for this impressive yet currently desolate listed building. Based on renovating and reopening the main pool, architectural concepts should be designed for the future use of this impressive and culturally important ensemble.
Construction: the construction module is based on existing buildings in urban contexts which can be renovated, converted and extended for new use. Sustainable construction methods for buildings with several storeys and the integration of balconies, loggias or terraces should be applied and demonstrated.
